About Us - Meet the Sewing Machine Doctor & his team

Stephen Potts is the Sewing Machine DoctorStephen Potts IS The Sewing Machine Doctor.

Back in 1984, Stephen started his career in the sewing machine industry, initially training with a Singer service & repair agency in Wellington, New Zealand. Gradually the workshop expanded & took on other major brands including Brother, Janome & Babylock. For a period of time, he also worked in a subcontract role for Brother International in New Zealand as well as a handful of retailers in Wellington during the mid 90’s.

After a brief foray of travelling, Stephen settled in Brisbane in 1998 & set up as a subcontractor, performing sewing machine repair services for various retailers in the Brisbane Metropolitan area. In the year 2000 he started The Sewing Machine Doctor, providing service to a mixture of both retailers & private clientele.

Since this time, Stephen has had extensive training across all major sewing machine brands. On two occasions, Stephen has actually travelled all the way to Jonkopping in Sweden to study at the Husqvarna facility—the global home of Husqvarna/Viking & Pfaff machines. With technical & diagnostic abilities second to none, Stephen is now a fully qualified Husqvarna Viking Master Service Technician, so when it comes to sewing machine service & repairs, you can be assured your sewing machine or overlocker is in the best of hands. As the business owner, Stephen continually strives to keep his skills & product knowledge up-to-date to provide the ultimate service to his clients. To that end, he has attended & completed numerous local training courses plus a wide variety of product workshops. The Sewing Machine Doctor also gained his Restricted Electrical Licence in 2005.

Stephen relocated The Sewing Machine Doctor to the Sunshine Coast in 2008, and has since built up a solid, reputable, service business, repairing & servicing sewing machines at his sewing machine clinic & workshop, which is centrally located at Forest Glen, only 5 minutes from Buderim with easy access from the M1 Bruce Highway. His primary focus is in keeping local domestic sewers happy & sewing.
